All properties that suffered damage during Nor’-Ida need to be reported to the County Planning or Building Departments, prior to commencing repairs. Damages that need to be reported include, but are not limited to, failed shoreline structures, bulkheads, piers and excessive erosion, as well as flooded or damaged structures. Permits are required prior to any restoration work.

Failure to report damages prior to restoration may result in fines, removal or condemnation. The Board of Supervisors has reduced the permit fees for storm repairs until December 31, 2009.  Repair of shorelines and shoreline structures must also receive approval from VMRC prior to repair. Planning and Building Department staff are available to record your reports Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Shoreline damage may be reported to the Planning Department by calling (804)-758-0500. Damage to dwellings and other structures may be reported to the Building Department by calling (804)-758-4305. A site inspection may be required prior to permit issuance.
