Budgets and Audits

The County of Middlesex operates on the fiscal year of July 1 to June 30. The County Administrator is responsible for preparing and presenting the annual budget to the Board of Supervisors. Budget requests are sent to all Departments in December of each year. The Board of Supervisors normally adopts the County budget at their first meeting in April. Middlesex County collects real estate taxes twice a year, which requires that tax tickets be ready for mailing by the first week of May.
Public Hearings are held prior to the adoption of the County budget.
Middlesex County Tax Rates
"Personal property rates are based on the Commissioner of the Revenue's application of assessment ratios on values. With the FY 17 budget and tax rates adopted on April 28, 2016, the Board of Supervisors voted to discontinue use of the assessment ratio valuation on boats, and set the effective rate at $0.98/$100 of 100% value. This change in valuation is only effective for boats."
