The Middlesex County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office of Virginia has a long history of providing its citizens with full access to public records maintained by the Court. The public records room of the Clerk of Circuit Court has held the history of certain records since 1600's.


Records maintained by the Clerk’s Office include land records, wills and probate, criminal cases, civil actions, marriage licenses, fictitious name certificates, handgun permit orders, name change cases, etc. Old census records were also kept at the Clerk’s Office and date back to 1880. Current census records are held by the County Administrator’s office.


The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is responsible for recording documents in the aforesaid categories and maintaining them in accordance with applicable law. The public records room is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday except holidays. Copies of records are available for $.50 per copy. A deputy clerk may certify copies for $2 per document. Certain records are maintained by the Library of Virginia. Please note that the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is prohibited by law from performing certain searches, but deputy clerk will assist our citizens whenever possible.
