Voter Registration InformationAre You Registered to Vote??If you can't remember when or where you last voted, or if you think you registered to vote at the DMV or at a public function, but you can't find your voter card, you may not be eligible to vote this fall unless you register by the October 6, 2008, registration deadline! You may also be ineligible if you have moved since you last voted but haven't updated your voter registration address. Call 804-758-4420, but no later than October 6th, to check on your current registration status or have an application form mailed to you.
Who Can Register to Vote? All U.S. citizens residents of Virginia 18 years of age or older, or who will be 18 by the next general election, are eligible to register to vote, provided they have not been convicted of a felony or judged by a circuit court judge to be mentally incompetent. Where Can I Register? The Office of the General Registrar is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Voter registration is also available at all DMV Offices and at Public Assistance Agencies. You may apply to register to vote by mail by completing and returning a voter registration application in the manner and time provided by law. Applications may be picked up at the following locations: Registrar’s Office, Middlesex County Library-Urbanna & Deltaville Branches, Urbanna Town Office and your local Post Office. The easiest way to register is to either download the Virginia Voter Registration Application below, or request an application form be mailed to you. The Virginia Voter Registration Application (for permanent U.S. citizen residents of Virginia) and the Virginia Application for Temporary Registration and Absentee Ballot (for overseas citizens whose last residence was in Virginia) are available below as PDF files. You can download and print the appropriate application form, complete it, and either mail it to our address at the bottom of this page. Sorry, we cannot accept this application via fax. Please see the application instructions for more information.
When Are the Polls Open? All polling places are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on election days. Do I Have to Show Identification at the Polls?Effective July 1, 2000, all Virginia voters will be required to show some form of identification when they go to the polls to vote. You can use your voter registration card; Virginia driver's license; social security card; any identification card issued by a federal, state or local government agency; or any employer identification card with a photograph. If you forget to bring your identification to the polls, don't worry, you'll still be permitted to vote! You just need to sign at statement affirming your identity. What Do I Do if I've Moved or Changed My Name Since I Last Voted? If you haven't updated your voter registration
record since your move or name change, please complete one of the steps below to
assure your voter registration record is properly updated. Remember, to be
eligible to vote, you must be registered at your current residence address.
Please note: Virginia law requires all changes to voter registration records to be authorized by the voter's signature. We cannot update your record without your signature. For that reason, we cannot accept address changes by e-mail.
