The Department of Planning and Zoning provides staff support to the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Wetlands Board , Industrial Development Authority, and the Board of Supervisors, including reviewing and providing recommendations on all land use matters presented to each Commission and Board. The Department reviews development plans for compliance with various County ordinances and is responsible for enforcement of the County's Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance and the local Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. The Department is responsible for long-range planning through the development and review of the County's Comprehensive Plan. In addition, the Department provides mapping and E911 addressing services for the County.
The Department is managed by David Kretz, Planning Director, who reports directly to the County Administrator. Their offices are located in the Woodward Building, 2nd Floor at the Saluda Courthouse Complex.
